The development of new therapeutic classes for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a major public health problem. This is particularly important for children and young people, because the risk of complications from erosive esophagitis, a condition characterized by erosions in the lower esophageal sphincter, is increased by gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
However, the prevalence of erosive esophagitis has increased in recent years, and the condition has become so common that the first-line treatment of erosive esophagitis was the use of medications such as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), such as omeprazole (Prilosec®), lansoprazole (Prevacid®), pantoprazole (Protonix®), esomeprazole (Nexium®) and rabeprazole (AcipHex®) in patients with erosive esophagitis. There are also reports that PPI therapy, such as omeprazole (Prilosec®), lansoprazole (Prevacid®) and pantoprazole (Protonix®), can cause gastric ulcers and bleeding in some patients. In a study by Zhang et al. (2017) the authors showed that PPI therapy was associated with increased risk of gastric ulcer in patients with erosive esophagitis. However, the risk of gastric ulcer is not well defined in the literature.
In this study, the authors analyzed the epidemiology of gastric ulcers in patients with erosive esophagitis and identified the risk factors. They studied the patients with erosive esophagitis based on age and sex, as well as the risk factors for the occurrence of gastric ulcers in patients with erosive esophagitis. The authors identified the risk factors for the occurrence of gastric ulcers in the patients with erosive esophagitis. They found that the risk factors for the occurrence of gastric ulcers in the patients with erosive esophagitis were age, sex, concomitant use of proton pump inhibitors, and concomitant use of erosive esophagitis.
This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Medical Institution in Fuzhou University. This study was also registered in the ClinicalTrials.gov (). The details of the research design, including the sample size, the sample size and statistical analyses were explained in the study package, including the methods, data analysis and data reporting. In addition, the researchers carefully collected the information of the patients in the study, including the date of study entry, gender and age. The study was also approved by the ethics committee of Fuzhou University. All patients had undergone a surgical procedure and received concomitant medication in a clinic. The participants had to complete a questionnaire before entering the study. The study was registered in the Chinese ClinicalTrials.gov ().
The patients in the study were randomly selected in accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The study was carried out between September 2018 and September 2019.
All of the patients had a history of chronic gastric disease, including chronic erosive esophagitis (CED), and they were also enrolled in this study. The patients were instructed to use PPIs (omeprazole, pantoprazole, pantoprazole esomeprazole, rabeprazole and lansoprazole), such as omeprazole (Prilosec®) and pantoprazole (Protonix®), to treat the erosive esophagitis.
The study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Fuzhou University. This study was also approved by the Ethics Committee of Fuzhou University.
The study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki.
The study was conducted in accordance with the Clinical Practice Guidelines for Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (CPGD) (2013) by the Consensus Development Committee of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) in June 2016. This guideline has been developed by the Consensus Development Committee to evaluate the risk of gastric ulcers in patients with erosive esophagitis.
